Welcome

Hi there!

My name is Ethan Bridges-Garcia, and welcome to the blogsite where I randomly post my ongoing thoughts to the world.

Much has changed for myself as a person and a writer, which is the main thing we should do as a society is grow. Growing does always mean negative. Growing is almost always a positive, and it is something that I have learned over the course of nearly four years.

I published my first novel, The Runner, in 2016. It was a project for NaNoWriMo in 2015. I also wrote it under a different name. It was the story of the rise and fall of a moonshine runner during the depression and prohibition eras in the South. I tend to use Georgia as my backdrop for many of my stories because Georgia is the only home I’ve known.

In June of 2018, I published my second novel and sequel to the first, When the Bough Breaks. The story follows the offspring of the main character of the first novel, and how he is intertwined with the New York mafia during the 1960s. And then… hiatus.

I came out of a bad place in my life and had to GROW. A friend of mine’s father once said, “You’re not grown until you’re grown.” I always thought that was a funny idiom, but he was absolutely accurate in that statement. I needed that growth to become myself.

At the latter end of 2019, I met my future husband. Then COVID-19 hit. I had stopped writing for sometime because I needed that growth. I started writing snippets of stories here and there, but nothing really grew. I changed jobs, got engaged, adopted a kitten, and was promoted multiple times within the company that I worked for. Nothing ever seemed to fit.

In May of 2022, I changed jobs again, but this time for the better. My current job allows me the freedom and ability to have time to write, and so I did. I started working on Summer Heat in August. I thought that the story had promise. How would two, young, queer boys find love in the late ’70s south in the USA?

Love will find a way.

Here I was a young, queer person dipping my feet into the world of the 2020s. Growth comes from within. And if you are to take anything away from reading my first excerpt/blog, just know if you feel stuck in life, you are just budding and blossoming to grow.

And GROW you shall.
