Two weeks of being published

Summer Heat has been published for two weeks. I have gotten so much love and support during this time from friends, coworkers, and family member. And sometimes I think that maybe it’s not going to be a great novel, but I have others that tell me differently.

I am currently working on my new novel. It is a murder mystery, which is a genre that I fell in love with after watching PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery.

Specifically, the animated opening to Mystery! grabbed me after I saw that it was parodied on the PBSkids show Arthur.

In middle school, I picked up my first version of an Agatha Christie novel. It was the novelization of a play that was written by the Queen of Crime, but not entirely written by her. Black Coffee introduced me to a world of crime that I never fully understood until I picked up A Mysterious Affair at Styles. I loved the guess work within the story itself. I proved myself wrong multiple times.

I didn’t become a fan of Ms. Christie’s work until I read Murder on the Orient Express. If you haven’t read this, then I suggest you do. It is such a wonderful mystery that does keep you guessing until the very end. If you prefer not to read it, I suggest the 1974 version, starring Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Anthony Perkins, Ingrid Bergman, Michael York, Vanessa Redgrave, Sean Connery, Martin Balsam, and Jacqueline Bisset. Definitely an all-star cast, but the 2017 version is watchable.

This current novel has been in the works since 2015. I had this idea but it wouldn’t go anywhere. It wasn’t until I started writing that the words began to flow onto the computer screen.

The story is set in a fictional town in Virginia called Pembrook. The local English teacher has been murdered, and the mother of the deceased doesn’t believe the police will do her son justice. So, she hires an ill-famed PI to help solve the case. I’m currently building the characters and story around this town, and I’m even incorporating the town as a character itself.

Now, it is still in the works, but I’m projecting it be released by the end of this year. I will just have to wait and see. My working title is Who DID It? that I hope won’t confuse the readers.

Once I get a little more into it, let’s say after the 25k word count mark, I’ll post an excerpt from it to showcase the progress.

But in the meantime, please get a copy of Summer Heat, available on Amazon!
